An overview of Dairy Industry

India represents one of the most lucrative dairy markets, being the world’s largest producer and also largest consumer of milk and dairy products. In production, India is commonly called “milk Bowl” of the world constituting one sixth of worldwide production, while in consumption with 20 million more mouths to feed every year, dairy products form a major source of cheap and nutritious animal protein to our people, particularly growing children, women and the large vegetarian segment of the Indian Population. The demand is increasing day by day. IMARC Group, one of the world’s leading research firm, finds that sales of dairy products in India will nearly double in another five years. India’s National Dairy Development Board has forecast milk demand at 200 million tonnes by 2017.
